Good deep red. Sexy if laid-back aromas of red fruits and minerals. Supple, sweet and essentially gentle, offering charming red fruit flavors along with an obvious oak element. Not a particularly gripping style but has enough acidity to give shape to the finish. These vines, owned by English expat Tim Marshall, who has lived and been in the wine business in Burgundy for decades, were planted in the early 1990s to what Jean-Nicolas Méo described as "sweet, ripe clones" but have been overgrafted with better, later-ripening stock. The result is more finishing grip and length but less early seductiveness, he added.

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Cras has a tightly wound, quite stony, slightly austere bouquet. The palate has a chalky entry and a firm backbone, slightly dry tannin but with good weight on the finish. It will hopefully develop a little more flesh with continued barrel aging. Granted, it is cohesive and long, but I would like more Chambolle character to come through.
