Score 91-93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2016
(made from 100-year-old vines in the climat La Cabane Rose, on calcaire soil in the heart of the cru, according to Laurent): Healthy dark red. The nose conveys a powerful impression of soil character with its notes of raspberry, smoked meat, flowers and underbrush. Intensely flavored and tightly wound, showing little in the way of easy sweetness to its complex flavors of black raspberry, saline minerality, leather and game. This very sexy, savory wine seems a bit lighter than in some recent vintages. For his part, Laurent believes that Gevrey was generally a bit less successful than Vosne-Romanée in 2014 owing to higher yields.
