The 2014 Bourgogne Chapitre Vieilles Vignes comes from two parcels in the vineyard (although not on the same soils or altitude as Sylvain Pataille's Chaptire). It is aged in 1one-third new oak albeit in 600-liter barrels. Despite a touch of reduction, there are some lovely ripe raspberry and wild strawberry fruit here interlaced with mineral tones. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, crisp acidity, very focused and supple with a fresh, pure finish that is an absolute delight. Anyone buying this bottle should slip it into a flight of bigger names and change a few opinions. This wine makes a mockery of the Burgundy hierarchy.
