Bright medium red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, mocha, brown spices and underbrush. Juicy, fine-grained and light on its feet, offering a rare combination of soil tones, fresh red fruits, minerals, herbs and leather. Delivers terrific delineation without any impression of weight. Flavors of raspberry, coffee and saline minerality perk up the salivary glands on the vibrant, rising finish. Just a touch imploded today--and I suppose it's possible that this wine will further close down in bottle. But it's wonderfully expressive today.

Moderately saturated medium red. Perfumed, soil-driven aromas of strawberry, raspberry and dried rose. Plush, savory and quite dry, displaying very good energy and a light touch. A distinctly red fruit version of Bonnes-Mares with intriguing complexity. The slowly building, very long finish features a broad dusting of tannins.

The 2014 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru was showing a little reduction on the nose that made it difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with light grainy tannin. The fruit seems rather faint on the mid-palate, leaving the tannins feeling a little harsh and abrasive towards the finish. Hopefully this will flesh out by the time of bottling, but it does not exhibit the same presence and substance as say Mugnier's Amoureuses or Musigny. I was just looking for more...Bonnes Mares.

In middle of the vineyard. Small parcel so it's assembled from the start. Delicate note with great precision and more intensity of perfume than the lesser wines in this stable but not obvious extra weight. Racy with some grit and grain. Good framework but not that much flesh. Lots of fruit and freshness. (JR)
