Good full red. Aromas of dark cherry and menthol show some floral lift but come across as backward today. A step up in fruit intensity from the basic 2014 Auxey-Duresses bottling but still a bit lean compared to the 2015 version. Nicely delineated, saline wine with noteworthy calcaire energy and definition. The tannins arrive fairly early, giving the finish a slight dryness but very good shape.

Bright crimson. A little muddy on the nose. But serious crunchy fruit on the palate. A bit austere for the moment but clearly made for the long term. Solid undertow. (JR)

(from two parcels, one on deeper clay and the other on rocky soil, assembled at the beginning): Healthy deep red. Darker but more closed on the nose than the village Auxey-Duresses. A step up in density as well but hints at a slightly high-toned character. Richer, riper and longer than the basic village offering but with a slight dry edge to its tannins.

The 2014 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru comes from two blended parcels and sees around 20% new oak. It has more density than the village cru on the nose: blackberry and light stony scents, perhaps just a touch of oyster shell from the limestone soils. The palate is a delight: quite grippy in the mouth, good backbone here for an Auxey-Duresses with tightly-wound, sappy black fruit towards the finish. This is very well crafted. Ten barrels produced.
