Tasting notes
A restrained and discreetly floral-inflected nose features ripe plum and black berry liqueur aromas along with plenty of earth character. The broad-scaled, rich and intense broad-shouldered flavors evidence a sleek muscularity on the long, punchy and moderately austere finish. This is relatively fine for a youthful Clos de Vougeot and that should enable it to be approachable young even though it should easily improve for 15 to 20 years. The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru had been racked two weeks previous to my visit. It has quite a precocious bouquet with vivacious red cherry, kirsch, orange sorbet and mineral notes - the aromas almost bursting from the glass! The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, touches of brown spice sprinkled from start to finish, with tangible tension that makes this so endearing. It lingers long in the mouth, concluding what is a very well-crafted Clos de Vougeot. Pierre Vincent opined that it might be the best Clos de Vougeot that he has ever made at Domaine de la Vougeraie. Me thinks you're right. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2020-2045
Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Vougeraie's 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru felt a little overripe on the nose at first, although with aeration it gained more delineation and harmony, evolving scents of incense and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and sappy red berry fruit, and although there is a tad too much oak on the finish, that will be absorbed with another two or three years in bottle. Keep the faith. Tasted September 2017. Oct 2017, www.robertparker.com
