(33 hectoliters per hectare; picked on September 15, the second day of Cournut's harvest): Bright yellow. Ripe yellow peach and spice aromas display a slightly candied impression. Fat, sweet and full in the mouth, if not yet showing the energy of the best years. But the complex yellow fruit flavors build with air and this powerful wine mounts slowly and impressively on the classically dry aftertaste, with terrific stony minerality providing grip. This should evolve gracefully.

Pale yellow. Lovely oily perfume of lime zest, nut oil and iodine, plus a remaining touch of green apple (this wine had just finished its secondary fermentation, but Cournut's Batard-Montrachet was still in its final throes and not available to taste). Hard to taste today but saline and light on its feet, showing excellent energy and a long, broad finish.
