Score 87/100 · Drink 2016-2017, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Apr 2016

The 2014 Petit Pittacum is pure Mencía matured in cement vats with a small percentage in well-seasoned oak barrels. When I see a nose like this, I understand why some people associate Bierzo (or Mencía) with Cabernet Franc, as the aromas are a mixture of wild berries and herbs that denote a cool climate (although many years can be very warm). The palate is quite compact, with nice, fine-grained tannins and moderate acidity, making it juicy and slightly chewy. 130,000 bottles produced.
