Tasting notes
A wine of considerable nuance, the 1999 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo delicate, perfumed and very nicely lifted in the glass. Crushed flowers, spices, tobacco, mint and wild flowers are all woven together in an expressive, mid-weight Barbaresco that should continue to drink well for at least another few years. The Rio Sordo isn't a blockbuster, but it is showing well today. This is one of the more lifted, feminine wines in the range.

The 1999 Barbaresco Rio Sordo Riserva shows ripe cherry and raspberry fruit, elegance and softness of flavors, and attractive anisette notes as well. Drink: 2005-2013. Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
This pretty wine presents aromas of spices, flowers, minerals and menthol. Soft and delicate, with flavors of sweet red fruits, good structure, and a nuanced, lingering finish. A classic Rio Sordo Barbaresco.
Medium red. Redcurrant and raspberry fruit aromas complicated by a note of tobacco. Fat and broad, with sweet redcurrant and raspberry flavors and sound supporting acidity. Finishes with dusty, slightly drying tannins and good length.
