Tasting notes
Blend of various different vineyards close to the winery. 462 barrels filled (they seem to prefer to cite this measurement rather than nearly 140,000 bottles). Sweet, smoky nose with more than a hint of popcorn. Easy, fresh, green-fruited palate without too much nuance but very clean and precise. Clean and lively even if not especially subtle or intense. Fresher than the 2015 Noisetiers. (JR)

The largest production cuvée for Kistler is the 2014 Chardonnay Les Noisetiers, of which they make 10,000 cases. It is an outstanding effort with a note of roasted hazelnuts (hence the name) loads of sexy citrus oil, honeysuckle and a touch of tropical fruit. It is meant to be drunk in its first 2-3 years of life.
The 2014 Chardonnay Les Noisetiers is wonderfully open and expressive, with striking aromatics and compelling overall balance. Candied lemon, mint, nutmeg and almonds are nicely layered throughout. This is a gorgeous wine at the appellation-level from Kistler that bodes very well for the single-vineyard offerings.
About the producer

Kistler’s Chardonnays are some of the world’s most sought-after. This cult Californian producer crafts small volumes of exceptional, rich and generous, yet mineral and precise wines. With almost the entire production sold directly to their mailing list, the wines are also incredibly hard to find.
