Tasting notes
Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Powerful, deeply pitched dark fruit and cherry preserve, licorice, espresso and violet scents are sharpened by a smoky mineral note and a suggestion of cracked pepper. Stains the palate with impressively concentrated black/blue fruit, floral pastille, cola and bitter chocolate flavors that turn more lively as the wine stretches out. In a muscular style, for sure, but there's real energy here as well. Finishes with superb, mineral- and floral-driven persistence, with building tannins lending framework and closing grip.

Remarkably fresh for the conditions of the vintage, the 2011 La Vinya del Vuit is a powerful blend of 70/30 Cariñena and Garnacha from an old vineyard in Gratallops with additional fruit from another plot in La Vilella Baixa. This bottling seems to take well to the warm vintages and ripens without excess, and even if the alcohol is on the high side (15.5%), it doesn't feel hot and is balanced in an XL style. It has the seriousness provided by the Cariñena, with the stuffing to age for a long time in bottle. This seems like one of the best vintages so far. 1,980 bottles were filled in August 2013 and it still feels very young and undeveloped.
