The coolish 2009 Nahe Riesling Bockenauer Felseneck "GG" is very clear and still reductive on the nose where ripe stone fruit (peach and nectarines) aromas are intermixed with very pure slate. Full-bodied, very ripe and quite powerful but more precise on the palate than the 2005 or 2006, this is a very elegant and well-balanced wine with a stunningly fresh, pure, long and mineral finish. Still very young (but accessible), this wine has great aging potential. (From my archive; tasted in February 2015.)

A pronounced herbaceous presence of spontaneous fermentation does undeniably suppress some of the individuality of Schäfer-Fröhlich’s Crus right now. This cannot deflect from the fact that the Felseneck posseses great substance of almost exotic fruit. Add a mouthfeel of opulence, a fine play of acidity and just a light minerally dash and you have a very impressive finish. (MS)
