Score 87/100 · Drink 2015-2018, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Sep 2015

The 2009 Pianirossi does not live up to the other two vintages (2008 and 2010) that I tasted in this mini vertical. This blend of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Montepulciano from sunny Maremma in southern Tuscany opens to green notes of curry leaf and rosemary oil with blackberry and prune at the back. The nose is ragged and rustic compared to the other vintages and there is a spot of gritty astringency on the finish.
