Score 92/100 · Drink 2020-2034, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Apr 2016

The 2014 Riesling Smaragd Singerriedel (picked pretty early on October 6 and 29) displays an intense, partly dried white stone fruit aroma, very well concentrated but not as bright and brilliant as the Steinterrassen Federspiel. Medium-bodied, firm, fresh and concentrated on the palate, this is taut and tightly woven but also dense and concentrated Riesling with extract, grip, finesse and tension. Although the finish is still a bit edgy and stringent, this is a promising wine for the next 15+ years.

The classic apricot of Singerriedel is here rendered at liqueur-like richness and intensity, its cyanic apricot-kernel element similarly concentrated on an oily and expansive palate. An aura of violets and linden flower wafts headily and mysteriously throughout. For all of its ripe richness, this weighs in at just 13.5% alcohol and preserves a delectable measure of primary juiciness, with smokiness and saliva-drawing salinity adding further appeal in a prodigious finish.
