Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2013 Vosne-Romanée Villages has a primal bouquet with raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and persimmon on the nose - quite precocious for a village cru. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, impressive balance and poise, a subtle seam of mineralité through the finish. This is a classy village cru that should give a decade's worth of pleasure. Tasted June 2015.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée is a real overachiever at this level. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, orange peel and mint open up in a surprisingly pliant, expressive wine for the year. The balance of fruit intensity and energy is compelling. The Liger-Belair wines are all made in tiny amounts and competition for them is fierce. If there is one of the less expensive wines to look for in 2013, it is the 2013 Vosne-Romanée villages. The Vosne is a blend of fruit from eleven parcels.

Bright, dark red. Ripe, smoky aromas and flavors of black raspberry and stone. On the palate, a tangy sweetness is leavened by well-integrated acidity. Nicely balanced, saline village wine with smooth tannins and good length.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée Village was picked from the eleven parcels on the same day and it was one of the latest malolactics. It has a pretty black cherry, iodine-tinged bouquet that neatly handles the oak. The palate is nicely balanced on the entry with sappy black cherry fruit tinged with black olive. A little chewy at the moment but that will soften by the time of bottling. Fine.
