Deep ruby. Smoky cherry and cassis scents are complemented by suggestions of candied lavender and cured tobacco. Sweet and penetrating in the mouth, offering juicy dark fruit and spicecake flavors that deepen and spread out with air. The smoke and floral qualities repeat strongly on a long, youthfully tannic finish featuring a sweetening vanilla quality.

Launched in 1993 with the 1990 vintage. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Coonawarra, Wrattonbully, and Barossa Valley. 12 months in 26% new French oak, and American oak hogsheads (12% new, 35% one year old and 27% seasoned) – moving towards all puncheons. TA 6.5 g/l, pH 3.55. Very deep crimson. High-toned nose. Green notes and a bit severe. A bit austere and stereotypically tart Coonawarra. Tough tannins on the end. (JR)

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 407 opens with notes of menthol, eucalyptus, blackcurrant cordial and black cherry pie plus underlying cedar, toast and dark chocolate hints. Full, generously fruited and wonderfully forward with firm tannins and lively acidity, it offers a beautiful expression of the best of South Australia Cabernet.
