The 2014 Branas Grand Poujeaux has a much fresher nose than many grander names, with black fruit, raspberry, allspice and cedar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, maybe just a bit more looser-knit than I remember, but it has a lovely caressing finish. This is definitely one of the better Left Bank wines of the vintage. Tasted non-blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

The 2014 Branas Grand Poujeaux is well defined on the nose with blackberry, raspberry, cedar and rose petal aromas, quite elegant in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, maybe a little softness on the entry, a touch meaty with a ferrous finish. This is now reaching maturity and I suspect it will not benefit from continued cellaring.

The 2014 Branas Grand Poujeaux has a slightly pinched nose at first, gradually opening to offer blackcurrant, briary and graphite aromas, though I would have liked more intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well judged acidity, smooth in texture with blackberry, bilberry and light cedar notes towards the finish. Fine, if just lacking some excitement. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Some evolution at the rim and a very pleasing fresh attack with an undertow of fine tannins. Quite long. (JR)
