Conceived from the ancient soils of Marananga, which lies very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley floor – slightly to the north and west, warm dry conditions and rich red soils. TA 6.5 g/l, pH 3.64. 12 months in American oak (14% new, 36% one year old) and French oak (20% new, 30% one year old). Not that much nose. Intense and very tannic. Tastes as though long macerated. Falls away a bit on the finish. Though it’s certainly clean. Sweet palate entry. But then rather drying on the finish. (JR)

Deep garnet-purple, the 2013 Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is unashamedly forward with fragrant notes of warm berries, fruits of forest compote, violets and anise plus touches of cloves and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, it bursts with spicy blackberry preserves flavors in the mouth, supported by firm, rounded tannins and a lively acid backbone, finishing with great persistence.
