This was apparently in the top 5 in a recent Decanter blind tasting of 99 Brunellos. Bricky ruby. As soon as you smell this you know it is just ready to start drinking now even if it has a long life ahead of it – complex aromas of fresh and dried cherry, a hint of orange and something sweet/sour about it. Dry, finely textured, elegant and moreish. Just broachable now if you drink it with food. Good length. (JH)

Col di Lamo's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a juicy, forward wine to drink now and over the next few years. There is good density in the glass, but at the same time, the flavors are already forward, suggesting there is no real upside to be gained from further cellaring. Sweet dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and menthol are laced into the juicy, open finish.

Giovanna Neri's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a dark and impenetrable wine with thick layers of cassis and cherry syrup wrapped between Spanish cedar, licorice, grilled herb and baking spice. The overall effect is very nice and the bouquet relies on many low-key aromas in supporting roles, rather than two or three aromas in center stage. Col di Lamo sometimes shows a chunky, slightly rustic quality and you definitely get that sense here. All told, I preferred the 2009 vintage of this wine compared to the 2010.

Mature-looking mid ruby with brickstone rim. Very tight and backward nose. Supple palate but so closed as to be practically numb. Difficult to judge at this stage. Wait. (WS)
