Shimmering with intensity, verbena scent spills out of the glass with sweeter notes of white currant and ripe apple pulling through to the palate. It keeps quietly unfolding, petals and lime zested and thoroughbred raciness. Nervy precision and as taut and vibrating as a harp string. (TC)

Clemens Busch's 2013 Pündericher Marienburg Riesling trocken GG reveals a nice, deep and intense mixture of ripe and well-concentrated white stone fruit and spicy slate aromas with a dash of lime juice. Full-bodied, quite rich and densely textured, this pure, firm, lingering and salty Marienburg Grosses Gewächs reveals a complex finish but remains a rather lean representative of the Busch style. An impressive, ageworthy Riesling cru from a problematic vintage.
It would be condescending to intimate that the Marienburg represents the estate’s version of an entry Grosses Gewächs, and although it does not muster quite the concentration of the other crus, it is still a wine with plenty of green fruit and salty minerality. Dashes of sorrel and herbs add a vegetal tangent. A sound acidity mirrors the conditions of the vintage, but substance and extract demonstrate Busch’s ability to succeed where many others struggle.
