The 2012 Rosso di Montalcino maintains a vividly deep ruby color and classic bouquet that mixes dried strawberries, plum skins, worn leather, hints of camphor and dusty rose. It caresses the palate with silky textures, yet maintains a finessed persona throughout, as a cascade of saline-mineral tones and tart, wild berries adds a crunchy sensation toward the close. The 2012 finishes lightly structured while remaining energetic and fresh, leaving a tinge of sour citrus. Presenting both a grippy yet also mouthwatering finale, it’s amazing how lively this Rosso remains 10 years post-vintage. That said, there will come a day that its fruit will take a back seat. Until that time, however, there is real beauty to be found here.

The 2012 Rosso di Montalcino opens to a luminous, light ruby appearance. The wine delivers a simple, but refined bouquet with dried cherry, laurel leaf, cola and crushed mineral. This was a warm growing season and the wine is immediate and approachable as a result. It does show that bright flash of acidity that is so distinct in all the wines of Biondi-Santi. This wine is made from fruit that is harvested from the estate's youngest vines.

The 2012 Rosso di Montalcino is soft, pretty and open-knit. The combination of the ripe vintage and desire to make a more accessible style of Rosso comes through in this floral, mid-weight wine. Sweet red cherry, raspberry and expressive, lifted floral notes are some of the signatures. Relative to most Rossos, Biondi Santi's 2012 is brisk and acid-driven, especially for the year, but fans of the estate will find the wine quite accessible. The 2012 spent two years in cask.
