Tasting notes
The 2014 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett displays a deep and pretty intense bouquet with ripe Riesling flavors intermixed with fine slate aromas. Medium-bodied and juicy, quite intense, very mineral and grippy on the palate, this Kabinett is provided with a nice phenolic structure and a delicate mineral acidity that makes it taste drier than it really is. Very good finish. Excellent.

A lovely nose mingles anise, sassafras, and lime, which then inform a delicate, juicy, polished palate. Like its Wehlener Sonnenuhr counterpart, this is a model of understatement, lift and judicious sweetness, and like the corresponding Ürziger Würzgarten, its refreshingly lingering finish incorporates the invigorating cut of lime peel. None of these Loosen Kabinetts is especially concentrated but they take delicious advantage of the relatively generous clusters and modest must weights of vintage 2014 while having scrupulously eliminated any hint of rot or acescence.
Tank sample. A light herbal note gives way to intense, ripe lemons. Ripe on the mid palate too and a long tangy finish. (JH)
