Pale, bright yellow. Discreet, high-pitched aromas of lime and spices are less perfumed than those of the Valmur. Juicy, penetrating and youthfully imploded, but without quite the texture or energy of the Valmur. Finishes broad and a touch dry, in need of time in the cellar.

The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos has a very precise and commanding bouquet with intense citrus fruit and mineralité - hints of orange blossom and a daring touch of licorice developing with aeration. The palate is fresh and vibrant, quite steely on the entrance but fanning out wonderfully toward the citric finish. Perhaps like last year, it is the Valmur that really shines at the moment and might be Raveneau's wine of the vintage.

Readers will have to be patient with the 2013 Chablis Clos, a wine that is showing just the barest hints of its ultimate potential. Raw and totally unformed, the Clos is a wine with a bright future. Today, it is the wine's texture that captivates the imagination with endless suggestions of what time in bottle might bring.

Austere scents of lemon, lime, fresh herbs, licorice and minerals. Densely packed, broad and tight, showing a distinctly tactile quality and noteworthy sucrosite. A suggestion of exotic noble rot adds personality to the vibrant flavors of mint and stone. Strong material here, if not a particularly classic or forbidding version of this great grand cru.
