Score 94/100 · Jim Murray, Whisky Bible

Refill sherry hogshead, cask 1411. Nose: from the exotic fruit school of Speyside malts. Shows serious age… and quality… Taste: at first you can’t divert your attention away from the silky depth of exotic fruit, the most intense of Seville marmalade and the lightest of smoke notes. When you do, you realise that perhaps the oak is offering just a little too much tannin. Then, finally, you work out that it’s the trade-off… and a fabulous one at that. Finish: plenty of weighty tannins. A few more puffs of smoke… and a long malty/salty/fruity fade. Balance: some whiskies can show their age, yet be more sexy than ever before. You get the feeling this cask has peaked. 48%
