Score 94/100 · Drink 2017-2029, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2015

The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is really one of the few remarkable wines in this very challenging vintage. Ripe and explosive, the 2009 Riserva possesses superb depth and more than enough structure to age well for a number of years. Smoke, game, tobacco and licorice race across the palate as this big, imposing Brunello shows off its considerable pedigree and class. The 2009 Riserva was made exclusively from Brunelli's Podernovone estate.

Score 93/100 · Drink 2016-2024, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2015

The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva opens to dark, brooding tones of ripe fruit and savory spice. This is a deeply layered wine that packs a powerful punch. Pressed rose, licorice, cola, menthol tones and toasted nut are subtle elements that make up the bouquet. The mouthfeel is silky, smooth and not as dense as you may expect. Its streamlined appeal makes this Riserva appropriate for braised medallions of soft red meat in creamy mushroom sauce. Crisp acidity keeps the palate amply refreshed.
