Tasting notes
Tasted blind at Fine & Rare Wines' Clos Vougeot tasting, the 2013 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret has a fresh, sprightly, effervescent bouquet with orange peel, red cherries and even a cheeky note of peppermint. The palate is fresh and keen with a fine thread of acidity. The oak here is tangible but in sync with the fruit, lending the finish a sense of harmony and refinement. Give it another 3-4 years in bottle.

Tasted blind. Mid jewelly ruby. Sweaty fruit, not quite fresh, on the nose. Solid with lots of tannin. Still quite youthful, perhaps the most youthful wine in this tasting; an ambitious package. For those who like structure rather than charm. (JR)
More attractive than the Hudelot-Noëllat but still rather light in the middle so that the oak is evident without quite enough fruit core for overall harmony. (JH)
