(vinified with at least 50% whole clusters; aged in a single new barrel until the racking in December): Deep red. Very ripe, musky nose shows less floral lift than the Amoureuses, but I picked up a suggestion of orange zest that I did not find in the premier cru. Distinctly darker in its fruit character than the Amoureuses but less expressive today. Very rich but not at all heavy. Doesn't show the refinement or precision of the Amoureuses but all the elements are in place for a great, long-lived wine. As backward as this is, the noble tannins show no dryness or hardness. Finishes with outstanding dark-fruit persistence.

(80% new oak; just 1-1/4 barrels made): Bright, deep red. Rich, soil-driven aromas of coffee, mocha, warm stones and smoky minerality. Like liquid velvet in the mouth, showing a silky thickness without weight that very few 2013s can match. A powerful crushed-rock character energizes and elevates the palate. Saturates every square millimeter of the mouth and perks up the taste buds on the suave, extremely long finish. This infant was vinified with 50% whole clusters.
