(from vines planted in the early 1950s): Medium red. Slightly musky perfume of red cherry, redcurrant and earth. A bit deeper than the Champ, showing moderate concentration but more shape and inner-mouth tension thanks to its juicy acidity. More tannic as well, but the tannins are dusty and fine-grained.

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois has a very expressive bouquet, already open for business with baked red cherries mixed with strawberry and a light marine influence. The palate is fresh on the entry, well balanced with fine tannin, a slight chalkiness towards the finish counterbalanced by plenty of spicy red fruit. This will be just lovely, though perhaps it will offer more pleasure on the short rather than long term?
