Score 85/100 · Drink 2017-2027, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

The 2014 Pontoise Cabarrus has an attractive, high-toned, minty bouquet with plenty of saturated red cherries and kirsch notes. The palate is sweet and a little cloying, modern and forward in style, lush and copious fluffy blueberry and cassis fruit, but lacking real Bordeaux character. Enjoyable, but lacking typicité. Tasted September 2016.

40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 58% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. 12 months in barrel, 35% new. Inky dark crimson. Smells dark-fruited, rich and oaky. Bags of everything here – plenty of ripe dark fruit, grippy tannins and yet the power is in balance. Chewy finish. (JH)
