I was only able to taste a white from Charmes Godard and their 2014 Château Les Charmes Godard Blanc (I suspect there’s plenty of Sémillon in here) is made in a rich, bold, generous style offering lots of pineapple, citrus, and lime characteristics. Moderately concentrated on the palate, with good intensity and a medium-bodied, rounded texture, drink this balanced, thoroughly enjoyable dry Bordeaux white over the coming couple of years.

The 2014 Les Charmes-Godard Blanc has an attractive nose of red apples (not green here), yellow flowers, honeycomb and a touch of white chocolate. The palate is fresh on the entry with crisp acidity, lively and surprisingly tensile. It offers touches of orange rind and grapefruit towards the finish that gains more weight as it aerates in the glass. This has turned out well and should drink for several years.

About the producer
Nicolas Thienpont purchased this estate in the Côte des Francs in 1988. Largely producing white wine, there is a high percentage of Semillon (60%) with 25% Sauvignon Gris and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented in 500-litre oak and spending six months on lees, this is an impressive, textured white wine.
