The 2014 Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Spätlese AP #7 (Auction) is a lush and intense Spätlese with a clear and very fine and slatey-flavored bouquet of mirabelle plums, nectarines and some tropical fruit flavors. On the palate, this is a very elegant, piquant and finesse-full Kupp with a complex mineral background and a stimulating raciness, salinity and finesse. Very long and salty in the finish. Really complex. Auction price: 70 Euros plus taxes. Best Buy!

Deep, juicy, site-typical fresh purple plum mingles with bittersweet inner-mouth floral perfume and undertones of roasted chestnut. Suggestions of almond paste and ripe Rainier cherry add to the luscious, almost liqueur-like sense of richness on a subtly creamy midpalate. Bright acids, by way of pit fruit tartness and diverse citrus, enliven a buoyant, strikingly penetrating, mouthwatering, clear and superbly focused finish. The acidity here is more covered by fruit and buffered by extract than in several other Müller 2014s, and as so often with Spätlese at this address, but especially in this case, it’s hardly worth mentioning sweetness, because residual sugar is so deftly integrated that one simply doesn’t give it a thought.
