2014 Smith Haut Lafitte

Tasting Notes
Relatively dark and staining the glass. Some "Smith" density here. Lovely sweet fruit in the mouth. All here and there is structure to this. This is complete, and exactly as it should be. A touch of mocha on top of perfectly balanced fruit. Full. Not over-done, perfectly weighted.

This has nice spine, with a persistent graphite and ganache character that runs through the core of dark plum and black currant fruit. The grip is well-embedded and there's lingering freshness despite the heft and depth. This will likely fill out more with time.—J.M. Wine Spectator, April 2015.

About the producer

Ch. Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the leading lights of Pessac-Léognan today – all thanks to Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who took over the property in 1990 and have since transformed the estate, converting to biodynamics and crafting wines of increasing finesse.
