The 2014 La Lagune has commendable fruit concentration on the nose, with blackberry and wild strawberry, tobacco and light autumn leaf aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins, classical in style and moderate length. A little dryness clips the finish. It's not bad, even though Haut-Bailly pulls this style off better. Recommended given market prices. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Deep garnet. Complex aroma of dark fruit and evolution (undergrowth, cigar box). The tannins are powdery and slightly drying but overall there is elegance and balance here. (JH)
The 2014 La Lagune has a tightly wound bouquet that may have closed down since I last tasted it. It begins to open with blackberry, graphite and wet limestone scents, quite strict and focused, but very well defined and showing great clarity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, and density with a little chalkiness showing towards the second half. I like the tension and energy, lingering long in the mouth. It will need several years in bottle but it will be worth the wait. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château.
Tasted blind. Very deep crimson. Fluid – sweet ink impression initially and then some greenness under the ripe fruit overlay. Good attack. Far from perfect but should offer bracing drinking eventually. (JR)

A Third Growth, this Haut-Médoc estate has been owned by the Frey family since 2000. They’ve invested significantly in the vineyard, cellar and château itself, rapidly realising ambitious plans for the property.
