Tasting notes
The 2012 Barbaresco is a gorgeous entry-level wine from Bruno Rocca. Soft, open-knit and expressive, this gracious, perfumed Barbaresco captures the essence of the year at this level in its giving personality. Hints of orange peel, dried cherry, herbs, tobacco, wild flowers and mint add nuance on the finish. All the elements are in the right place. The 2012 is not super-complex, but it is open-knit, expressive and easy to enjoy today. In other words, everything an entry-level Barbaresco should be.

Bruno Rocca has done a terrific job with the 2012 Barbaresco. This base wine is slightly more approachable and simple in style, but it ultimately offers the trademark complexity and depth that you should expect from top-tier Barbaresco. In the case of the 2012 vintage, the wine is especially generous in terms of its aromatic intensity and integrity. Wet earth, dark fruit, plum and pressed roses rise from the bouquet. In the mouth, the wine feels tonic, tight and fresh.
The just-bottled 2012 Barbaresco is terrific. Juicy, pliant and expressive, the Barbaresco impresses for its soft, supple personality and fresh, vibrant fruit. This is the first vintage in which the Barbaresco was partly aged in cask, which results in a wine with softer contours and fabulous overall balance. Silky tannins support a super-expressive finish laced with sweet tobacco, wild flowers, mint and cedar. The 2012 was made from parcels in Currà and Fausoni, and aged in a combination of casks and smaller French oak barrels.
