The 1990 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is blessed with an ethereal, almost sensual bouquet of shimmering red fruit laced with wilted rose petal and traces of chlorophyll. There is a sense of underlying warmth emanating from that hot summer, yet it retains delineation. The palate is defined by its fine, almost sculpted tannins, slightly ferrous in style, with cracked black pepper toward the finish. This is not thrillingly complex, to be honest, yet it is harmonious and feels very long and tender. At its peak.
