The utterly sensational 2009 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie is a huge, unctuous, decadent effort that’s about as hedonistic as they come, all the while never putting a foot wrong and staying balanced and graceful. Blackberries, licorice, toasted spice and chocolate characteristics all emerge from the glass, and it has a stacked mid-palate, building tannin and blockbuster length. It has another 20+ years of longevity. Bravo!

Vivid purple. Complex, highly perfumed scents of black raspberry, cherry-vanilla, anise and violet. Lush, alluringly sweet dark fruit flavors show a refreshingly bitter edge and becomes spicier with air. This seamless, broad Hermitage finishes with excellent clarity and length. This very young, unevolved wine begs for another five years of age, at a minimum.

Bright purple. Intensely perfumed aromas of cherry, incense, bitter chocolate and licorice. Supple, dense and alluringly sweet, with surprising restraint to its spicy blackcurrant and cherry compote flavors. Tactile and strikingly concentrated, with good finishing lift and resonating notes of floral pastilles and smoky minerals.
