Tasted blind. Blackish ruby. Unusual verging-on-overripe/Australian notes on the nose. Very sweet and polished. This could be difficult to identify as right-bank bordeaux if served blind. A dramatic, flattering wine. Just very slightly syrupy. A bit of alcohol on the end. (JR)

The 2012 La Tour Figeac is wonderfully open and expressive in this tasting, with lovely depth and plenty of personality. Red fleshed fruits, tobacco, spices and licorice add nuance in an inviting, beautifully layered wine. The 2012 is supple and gracious. Finesse prevails over pure power in this gravel-rich terroir. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Christine Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu consult.
This is a real strong showing from this 35-acre estate located on the Pomerol/St.-Emilion border and planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. One of the best efforts I’ve tasted from them in recent years, the wine has an opaque purple color, a sweet nose of cassis, blueberries, black cherries, licorice and earth that follows through brilliantly on the palate with full body, beautiful texture, depth and impressive concentration and ripeness. Everything is in total balance in this beautiful St.-Emilion that should drink well for 12-15 or more years.
About the producer
Situated on the Saint-Emilion side of the appellation’s border with Pomerol, this estate was part of Ch. Figeac until 1879. They were an early pioneer of biodynamic farming, having converted the entire estate in 1997.
