The 2010 Grattamacco is drop-dead gorgeous. Sweet, layered and impeccable in its balance, the 2010 impresses for its silkiness, depth and purity. Black cherry and plum notes meld into mocha, violets, cloves and menthol in a polished, refined wine loaded with class. The 2010 is one of the most refined Grattamaccos I can remember ever tasting. It is also one of the very best. Readers won't want to miss this Bolgheri icon in 2010.

The 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco shows a sharpened sense of focus and clarity. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) with Merlot and Sangiovese and the wine delivers its aromas with lift and purpose. A pretty spot of acidity helps to define the deep concentration and sheer power of this opulent red. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This is one of the best-known brands from Bolgheri run by Laura Breschi and Claudio Tipa. Importer: Bedford International; www.winesfrombedford.com

Grattamacco

Grattamacco’s story begins when Piermario Meletti Cavallari purchased an abandoned vineyard in 1977 and grafted over many of the vines. He produced one of the earliest Super Tuscans in 1982 – a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese and a wine which continues to earn acclaim today.
