Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Complex, balsamic nose with minerally, earthy notes. Opens up slowly in the glass. Sweet, perfumed cherry. Supple fruit that is still compact and with a core of ripe cherry fruit. Superbly balanced and with finely ground coating tannins. Still not yet at its peak. (WS)

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Soccorso is bright, precise and chiseled in the glass. Bright cherry, raspberry, crushed rocks, chalk and white pepper all give the 2010 its distinctive chiseled personality. This is one of the more focused, taught 2010 Brunellos readers will come across. The firm tannins need at least a few years to soften. It will be interesting to see if the 2010 fleshes out in bottle. Today, it is a bit compact.
Single vineyard planted ‘ad alberello’, or bush-trained vines. Concentrated ruby with orange tinges. A finer, more concentrated version of the Poggio Cerrino with a fine spicy, smoky edge to the concentrated cool raspberry and cherry fruit. Intense and with fine firm tannins. Fluid ripe palate with a firm core of tannins. Honest and with energetic acidity. Really deserves ageing, but already delicious (WS)
