The 2011 Barolo Bric dël Fiasc offers impressive integrity and shine considering the warm conditions of the growing season. This is a pristine and supple wine that delivers a steady stream of berry, spice, herbal and balsam characteristics. The mouthfeel is streamlined and direct in approach, but there is good structure to hold the wine firmly together.

Castiglione Falletto. Quite dark ruby with orange tinges. A nose that is a little marked by dried fruit. Sweet and opulent gingerbread and dried-fruit palate. There’s some good acidity here, but the fruit closes up. Captivating, grainy tannins and introvert cherry fruit with real precision on the finish. (WS)

Palish, healthy ruby with orange tinges. Dark earth, sweet tobacco, herbs and cherry on the nose. Brooding ripe fruit combined with an elegant palate weight. Seems the most evolved of the Scavino offerings in this vintage. Firm, but ripe tannins. With food this can be approached now. (WS)

The flagship 2011 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is the wine that seems to have suffered the most from its recent bottling. The signature mineral/ferrous notes are present, but the wine hasn't fully come together in bottle. At this stage, the 2011 is quite reticent, especially compared to how it showed from tank prior to bottling, but I am not at all concerned given the wine's brilliant track record and this site's history for producing tannic, ageworthy Barolos. Today, though, there is not a lot of vintage 2011 sexiness.
