Tasting notes
Dark red cherries, plums, smoke, game, spices and new leather are some of the notes that take shape in the 2012 Pinot Noir Ryan Widdoes Vineyard. This cold, north-facing site planted with the Martini clone tends to produce Pinots with more savory characteristics as well plenty of underlying tannin. Those are exactly the qualites that come through here. The 2012 is undeniably attractive, but it could use also another year or so in bottle.

Made from the Martini selection of Pinot Noir, there are 1,002 cases of the 2012 Pinot Noir Ryan, which comes entirely from the Widdoes Vineyard. Burgundian-like notes of raspberries, blueberries, sassafras, cola, tobacco leaf and barbecued meats are followed by a rich, full-bodied, multidimensional, big, earthy, savory Pinot Noir. Enjoy it over the next decade.
Broad and ample on the palate, the 2012 Pinot Noir Ryan Widdoes Vineyard presents a gorgeous combination of fruit, acidity and pure structure. Silky yet grippy tannins convey an impression of texture and pure polish. There is a lot to look forward to here. Today, it looks like these thick-skinned Martini clones did a little better in 2012 than 2011.
