Light, red-pear aromas. The palate is rather more interesting than the nose, with well-judged concentration and good length, though it’s not particularly Charmes-like. (AH)

(the only one of these 2013s that had been racked and assembled by the time of my visit, as it had been very reduced): Good deep red. Pure but reticent aromas of red fruits and menthol. Silky on entry, then supple and energetic in the mid-palate, with pristine red fruit flavors supported by a stony underpinning. Finishes saline and persistent, with its 50% new oak showing today. "Oxygen has done wonders for this wine," noted van Canneyt, adding that the rest of the 2013s need air. He planned to rack them into cuves not long after my visit and bottle in January.

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes was the only cuvée that had been racked since it had been very reduced. There are four barrels, of which two are new. It has a lively and very natural bouquet that is well defined: the real essence of pinoté here, gently caressing and seducing the senses. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree and supple tannins, crisp acidity and a juicy corpulent finish that will seduce at ten paces. This is a fantastic Chambolle Charmes that will give years of pleasure.
