Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières has a slightly muffled bouquet, the oak not quite singing from the same hymn sheet as the fruit. The palate is better with a slightly honeyed entry, the acidity nicely judged to retain balance, nutmeg infusing the citrus fruit towards the spicy and appealing finish. It just does not quite deliver the depth of its peers, but it should repay another couple of years in bottle. Tasted May 2016.

Pale, bright yellow. Sexy, musky aromas of stone fruits, apple, buttery lees and nutty oak. Sweet, plush and easygoing, with stone fruit flavors accented by oak spices. This round, ripe Meursault has sound supporting structure.

There's a little more new oak here (15%) and it shows in a lightly cedary aroma and an attractive creamy texture. Lovely balance and better persistence, just a little insubstantial. (JH)

(domain wine): Citrus and white pepper aromas. Sweet and supple on the palate, with good pulpy depth to the flavors of lime, lemon and powdered chalk. Reverberates nicely on the rising citrussy finish, which is just at the limit of bitterness. I like the balance of ripeness and acidity here.
