Tasting notes
The 2013 Nuits-Saint-Georges La Richemone Cuvée Ultra is magnificent. This is the first vintage in which Christophe Perrot-Minot vinified the grapes with the jacks attached (pedicelles), which, along with the late harvest, has given then Richemone Ultra a level of precision and finesse I don't recall seeing in previous years. The 2013 is both rich on the palate and wonderfully energetic. In short, the 2013 has as lot going on. This old-vine site was planted in 1902.

(100% vendange entier ): Bright, dark red. Pungent, rather wild aromas of raspberry, cassis, menthol, earth and minerals are complicated by mint and leather nuances. Big, broad, seamless and deep, showing a lush texture but little easy sweetness to the slightly medicinal black cherry and menthol flavors. Conveys as much energy as the Combe d'Orveau Cuvée Ultra but the wine's strong tannins really clamp down on its finish today. Lay this one down and forget about it for a while.
The 2013 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Richmones Cuvée Ultra has a very intense bouquet with penetrating dark cherry, blackberry and chalk dust aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm grip in the mouth. This may turn out to be a more masculine Nuits Saint Georges, but I hope that it develops more flesh and corpulence on the spicy finish that seems just a little austere at the moment and if I am being honest, does not really put a distance between itself and the regular Richemones.
