Firm veins of tannin run through the 2010 Barolo Riva del Bric. Pine, mint, wild flowers and crushed rocks all combine to give the 2010 a sense of pulsating energy and pure tension that is impossible to miss. Rose petal, spice and sweet red berry nuances are layered into the tense, brilliant finish. The 2010 is going to need time in bottle, but it is quite promising.

The 2010 Barolo Riva del Bric shows a high degree of floral intensity with pressed violets and rose followed by bright red fruit and distant spice. The maceration period is relatively brief (15 days) and this has helped to fix the wine’s intensity, both in terms of its appearance and its bouquet. Vinification includes three years in botte grande. Mineral nuances and fresh acidity characterize the finish. Drink: 2017-2028. Giorgio Conterno knows how to set a relaxing tone. A visit to his tasting room offers a meaningful sensorial experience with classical music, stunning hillside views and beautiful wines (most especially in 2010). Mid ruby with orange rim. Brooding rich cherry and spice. Youthful and lively acidity and fresh fruit and lots of powdery drying tannins. Not enormously long but with real character and style. (WS)
The 2010 Barolo Riva del Bric is the most delicate and lifted of the three wines I tasted from Paolo Conterno and proprietor Giorgio Conterno. Rose petals, sweet red berries, mint and anise meld together in a feminine Barolo graced with crystalline purity, energy and precision. There is a lot to look forward to in this lovely Barolo.
