Good bright medium red. Ethereal aromas of crushed stone, raspberry, red cherry and flowers, plus a touch of smoky minerality. Sweet, sappy and fine-grained, especially for a wine from fruit picked at 12.1% potential alcohol and chaptalized to 12.7%. Boasts wonderful energy and density, not to mention purity of flavor. The long, mineral-driven, saliva-inducing finish offers grip without hardness.

The 2013 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru is matured entirely in new oak like the Echézeaux, although this was entirely destemmed. It has a perfumed bouquet that is more nuanced and complex than the Echézeaux: very fine delineation and more expressive mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin and a feminine touch. There is plenty of tension here, plenty of mineral tones with a long and sensual finish. This is sheer class, although I believe young Maxime will make even better in the future.
