Score 100/100 · Drink 1965-2035, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Feb 2025

I last drank de Vougüé's 1945 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru in 2018 with a good friend who passed away in the interim. This bottle, acquired from the same Dijon cellar, was even better, even if the company wasn't quite the same. Unfurling in the glass with a kaleidoscopic bouquet of sweet red berries, rose petals, violets, musk, exotic spices, blood orange and smoked tea, it's medium to full-bodied, pure and seamless, with incredible depth without weight, ultra-refined tannins and a sublimely long, perfumed finish. I don't know if I'll ever drink it again, but this bottle left such an indelible memory that it's a moot point.
