Good climate conditions: a balanced quantity of rain, regularly distributed throughout the growing season; the right curve of temperatures with a clear day and night temperature variation. No stress for the vineyards. The canopy was such that harvest was delayed until early October, a return to a more normal harvest period but there was no hurry to pick these healthy grapes. Vineyards becoming older and, with time, they produce more balanced and complex grapes. 2010 was, generally speaking, a controversial vintage, but Tenute Silvio Nardi regard it as a great vintage. Transparent ruby/garnet. Very healthy hue. Mellow, fully resolved nose with considerable tertiary aromas. Lift and freshness on the palate with just a whiff of charred tarmacadam on the nose. Admirable Sangiovese refreshment overlaid with southern Tuscan heat. Very slight dustiness on the end and still evidence of some fine tannins. (JR)

Nardi's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a juicy, succulent wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, spice and floral notes lift from the glass. Racy and open-knit, the 2010 Brunello is already quite expressive.

Full of tension and energy, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine that does honor to the magnificent 2010 vintage. The fruit nuances are layered and plentiful with loads of cherry, cassis and blackberry to keep your interest. The tannins are smooth and ripe with sweet overtones. The wine offers good complexity and definition. Drink this Brunello after 2017.

Healthy-looking mid ruby with orange tinges. Iron and earth and hints of candied peel. Not a lot of fruit expression on the palate (yet) and a little creaminess from the oak. Very solid and with firm tannins covering the fruit. (WS)
