Serralunga d'Alba, 24 months Slavonian botti. Developed sweet undergrowth aromas and liquorice, very lightly floral. Scented mid palate and fine firm tannins. Well balanced but a bit tough at the very end. (JH)

The 2004 Barolo Boscareto is a more vibrant and larger-scaled wine than the Serralunga. It presents lovely harmony in an expression of dark cherries, plums, spices, toasted oak and menthol, showing terrific overall balance and well-integrated tannins.

The 2004 Barolo Boscareto is a more vibrant and larger-scaled wine than the Serralunga. It presents lovely harmony in an expression of dark cherries, plums, spices, toasted oak and menthol, showing terrific overall balance and well-integrated tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019. Ferdinando Principiano has made some radical changes in his approach, the most important of which are in the vineyards, where he is now pursuing much lower yields. Nature’s cycles are of course slow, and it often takes vines a few years to adapt to such changes. It will be interesting to follow developments here over the next few years. Medium red. Perfumed aromas of cherry liqueur and truffley underbrush. Supple, broad and classically dry, with very good texture and depth to the red fruit and menthol flavors. Not hugely concentrated but fat and ripe. Finishes with building tannins and very good length.
