Good medium red with a healthy rim. Alluring, deeply pitched aromas of raspberry, mocha, dried flowers, spices and smoky oak. Then juicy, salty and penetrating, with the low yield of the vintage obvious in the wine's intensity. Firm acidity--probably higher than the last three wines, notes Marie-Andrée--energizes and sharpens the highly complex flavors of red and darker berries, licorice, spices, blood orange and black pepper. A wine with outstanding precision, this beauty boasts terrific inner-mouth floral lift and also spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate on the very long whiplash of a finish. Plenty of soil-driven minerality here and still distinctly firm-edged on the aftertaste. Marie-Christine noted that this wine was very closed when she pulled the cork an hour before our tasting. (13.5% alcohol; 3.5 pH; 35 hl/h; harvested on September 25)

Bright medium red. Wonderfully subtle, fresh nose combines cherry, raspberry, licorice, pepper and spices. Silky, round and utterly seamless, with its major stuffing enlivened by subtle energy. More uncompromisingly dry than the Echezeaux owing to its serious tannic underpinning and saline finish. This extremely promising wine, which was much easier to taste from barrel a year ago, may be in the process of shutting down in the bottle already.

The 2010 Clos de Vougeot is magnificent. It boasts gorgeous textural richness and fabulous overall balance. The significant millerandage in this parcel has given the Clos de Vougeot a distinctly dark profile. Deep layers of dark cherries, menthol, spices and licorice flesh out beautifully on the pure, crystalline finish. This is a great Clos de Vougeot.

Saturated, bright dark red. Medicinal cherry, crushed rock, licorice, menthol, flowers and pepper on the very ripe nose. Silky, savory, rich and dry, with red fruit and mineral flavors saturating the entire mouth. Utterly primary Clos Vougeot with the positive high-toned character and lift of a young Musigny. Finishes with palate-staining persistence. Splendid potential.
